Making the story
We appreciate that authors who wish to self publish are often looking for a range of services and support, depending on their requirements. What suits one doesn’t suit all. To meet that expectation, we have devised four core publishing, design and communication packages from which authors can ‘pick and mix’. Given below are descriptions of each core package, plus some bespoke services. The fees for the four publishing packages and other bespoke services will be provided on request by contacting us by email at email@example.com
Editorial and marketing package. This package is for the author who would like hands-on support with the editorial and marketing aspects of the publication process. It includes copy-editing, proofreading (usually 3 to 4 rounds plus printer’s proofs), writing all copy for the marketing of the book (printed and e-format), direct mail data mining, direct mail circulation, contact and follow-up with review editors and media. Creation and content management of Facebook page dedicated to the author’s book.
This is a design focussed package, the purpose of which is to support authors who would like their books to have a professional and quality presentation. It includes the design and layout of text using InDesign, the standard industry software for graphic designers, (3-4 samples provided). Design of cover (3-4 samples provided); proof corrections; scanning and imposition of illustrative material; preparing text for print and any illustrative work required; design and artwork of Advance Information Sheet/flyer; design and artwork of Press Release.
Package A Social networking. This package is for the author who is self publishing their book, wishes to use social networking sites but does not want to do it! We can provide this service on an annual renewable basis. Social networking sites included in the package currently are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and WordPress blogging.
Package B Website development and design. This package is for the author who has got everything else in hand, but would like a website developed for their book and other projects and interests. It includes purchasing a domain name, briefing for the design and concept, developing the site, meta-data, and web-mastering the site. There is an annual renewable fee to cover hosting, updating and maintaining the site.
Full service package. This is our most comprehensive service package for authors. Primarily created to support those who wish to have support and advice through the entire publishing programme. It includes editorial, design, and marketing support.
For authors who need less support we offer a design consultancy package of 10 hours, and also an editorial and marketing consultancy package of 10 hours. These hours are used in whatever way is deemed the most useful by the author.
Print on demand (POD) and e-books (Kindle) are not included in our publishing packages. Quotations are provided on request.
Q: Why are our publishing packages called Chelsea, London, Islington, and Office?
A: Joseph Addison (1672-1719), English essayist, politician, classical scholar and co-founder with Sir Richard Steele (1672-1729) in 1711 of The Spectator adopted the name of Clio as a pseudonym. He signed many of his articles in the journal using one of the four letters in this word which also denoted the places where he wrote them: Chelsea, London, Islington, the Office.
